I'm very pleased to announce that thanks to your votes, the Ferrari 458 Italia has been voted our car of the year for 2010!

Over 41,000 votes were placed, and the overwhelming winner with 24% of the total was the Ferrari. In second place was the thrilling new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwing, with 13%. The new Vauxhall Astra gained a very creditable third place with 12% - ahead of such exotic machines as the Lotus Evora (9%), Nissan 370Z (9%), and Porsche Panamera (6%).

Second place: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

I'd like to offer huge congratulations to Ferrari for coming first. It is a truly gorgeous car to look at, and the joy continues when you get behind the wheel and scream the car up to its 9,000 rpm red-line. Any Ferrari is a dream car for millions of people, and the 458 Italia continues the tradition. It is no surprise at all to see this car succeed worthy previous winners like the Audi R8, Aston Martin DB9 and Bugatti Veyron. Read all about the 458 in the review by Peter Burgess, and watch our Car of the Year video with some lovely footage of two 458s battling it out here.

How the vote worked

All the contributors to MSN Cars collectively selected the ten finest cars launched in 2009, and then asked all our users to cast their vote on the car that has most impacted on them with its design flair, brand quality, and perceived driving experience. It is a true 'people's choice award', the only large scale one of its type.
