Felipe Massa will carry out a further track test in an old Ferrari at Barcelona on Friday ahead of his return to official Formula 1 action at first test of pre-season.
Late last year the Brazilian completed two tests in a then two-year-old F2007 at Fiorano and Mugello respectively as a way of reacclimatising himself back into an F1 environment following his return to fitness after the head injuries he sustained in an accident in Hungary last July.
With Ferrari’s F1 Clienti department having been running an F2008 for MotoGP superstar Valentino Rossi at the Circuit de Catalunya this week, Massa has decided to take advantage of the opportunity to complete some more mileage for himself at the circuit on Friday.
"As the car and the track were available I thought it would be helpful to go onto the track for a day to continue gaining confidence with the Formula 1," Massa said.
"After the days in Fiorano and Mugello this will be a nice opportunity to get back driving on such an interesting and challenging track."
Although the F1 testing ban remains in force until the opening pre-season test in Valencia from February 1, teams are permitted to test cars which are more than two years old provided the outing is conducted with GP2 tyres.
The F2008 was the car that almost carried Massa to the drivers’ world title in 2008, the Brazilian being pipped to the crown by Lewis Hamilton by a single point following the dramatic conclusion to the season-finale at Interlagos.
