Michael Schumacher's test in a GP2 car at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain concluded in dry conditions on Thursday. The seven-time world champion has been carrying out a developmental test of a 2009-spec GP2 car in Jerez since Tuesday.Schumachers progress during the first two days of the test in Jerez was blighted by wet weather, but a drier final day meant the 40-year-old could record lap times on slick tyres for the first time. The German completed three long runs on slicks and a total of 130 laps on day three, bringing his overall distance covered to 1151kms over the three days and his best lap time up to 1m 24.621. "I could really drive a lot on this last day of testing and it worked out perfectly," said Schumacher."I am very happy with the way testing went here: we worked well, times and consistency were well, we could do everything we had scheduled to do."I feel fit and I felt comfortable immediately back in the car - hey, let's go for it!"GP2 Series organiser Bruno Michel added: "Michael's analysis and feedback was fantastic and the GP2 technical staff who have been working with him this week is positive that what has been learned from this development test will provide us with an even better car in 2011."We are very happy that Michael chose our car to get his sensations back at the wheel of a high-performance machine and that he stated that it was the closest thing to a current F1 car."He made a few comments comparing the GP2 and the F1 cars notably regarding their handling."The test is to prepare Schumacher for the demands of a formula one car before stepping into the cockpit of his Mercedes Petronas RB1 for the first time during official winter testing in February, and to help develop the 2011/2013 GP2 Series car.Mercedes GP are yet to confirm whether Schumacher will make his debut during the first winter test at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, or the second official session in Jerez, which is scheduled to begin on February 10th.
