Automezzi XIX was held at The Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design today in Lakewood. Automezzi is a car and motorcycle show that is: "A celebration of Italian motoring." www.automezzicolorado.org/ There were Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, Fiats, Lamborghinis, Panteras, Maseratis, Ducatis and more at the show. Not all of them were fancy - there were a few cars that looked pretty worn out and tired. Some, however, were exceptional. After I returned home a violent hail storm passed over Denver. I hope it didn’t pass over the show. It would be a horrible tragedy if the cars were damaged. Please check out the slide show below in addition to the photos on
this page.
There were four cars at the show that really stood out to me. I’d like to single them out for special recognition.
Best in Show: I am very surprised to be picking a Lamborghini Countach as best in show - but I am picking it. It was by far the nicest Countach I had ever seen in person. It looked as if it had just left the factory. It was perfect. No hideous U.S. market bumpers, no horrid wings, no cracks in the interior. I was blown away.
Second Place: Another surprise for me - a Ferrari 308 GT/4. Elvis had one, but the 308 GT/4 has often been an unloved and
forgotten Ferrari. Most of the ones that I’ve seen have been somewhat neglected. Not this one. This was the nicest 308 GT/4 I had ever seen. It came in second because of how well cared for it was and how unusual it is to see this model in this kind of shape. Oddly enough, I spent more time drooling over it than any of the other Ferraris.
Third Place: Alfa Romeo Milano. This car placed third with me for a couple of reasons. 1. It was in extremely nice shape. Most Milanos that you run into these days are a little rough around the edges. This one was pretty much perfect. 2. An Alfa Romeo Milano was my first car and I loved it. The Milano is a sentimental favorite for me.
Honorable Mention: Ferrari 330 GTC - one
of my favorite looking Ferraris - particularly the tail view. This was a very nice car.
Crowd Favorite: Ferrari Enzo Ferrari. Nothing drew a crowd like the Enzo.
