1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa breaks auction records!

An example of classic Ferrari racing history has broken the most expensively auctioned car record - by a mile!

9.02 million Euros (Rs 59.37 crore approx) - that's the value of the most expensive car ever auctioned yet! The unbelievable price tag was attracted by a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - an extremely rare racing car from the prancing horse stables - especially in its open top 'pontoon fender' style which the example in question belonged to. The auction statement that described the history of the car stated that only 22 examples of the aforementioned body style were made between 1957 and 58.

The Testa Rossa in question sports a black body with a red nose. Interiors are finished in pristine red leather. The 250 Testa Rossa isn't just a show car either. The open-topped two-seater model competed in 19 international championship races between 1958 and 1961 claiming no less than 10 victories with this particular car finishing 4th at the Buenos Aires 1000. With such immaculate credentials attached to the model's history it isn't a wonder that the car pipped the previous most expensive auctioned car by over 2 million Euros! The final price included a 10 percent buyer's premium on top of the hammer price at the auction. While collectors brewed up a buying battle for the car both in person and over the phone at Ferrari's factory and test circuit at Maranello, RM acutions - the organisation responsible for the event, refused to disclose the identities of both buyer and seller.

Now we all knew that Ferraris come expensive but this Testa Rossa from 1957 has certainly made a mark on history. Come to think of it, just imagine what price tags Ferraris F1 cars will demand a few years down the line - especially the ones that won Michael Schumacher his Championships!
