It should have came as no surprise to anyone that Ferrari tackled the FIA all the way to court. Speculation is rife, now that the court ruled in favour of the FIA, that Ferrari might stay away in 2010. It remains to be seen but history suggests they will line up for 2010.
Enzo Ferrari is no stranger to taking on the authorities, and it is almost a prerequisite that whoever is leading the great Italian team should challenge the authorities at some point. Luca di Montezemolo has this desire to challenge and will stop at nothing in putting Ferrari's views across.
Ferrari it seems is not intimidated. This being evident on the May 13, 1950, at the European Grand Prix held at Silverstone. They decided to stay away electing to prepare their cars for the Monaco Grand Prix one week later. It is worthy to note that when times are well for Ferrari they remain obedient to the cause.
In a show of Ferrari's defiance he chose not to allow his cars to race in the 1957 Pescara Grand Prix, on a circuit where Enzo Ferrari won his first event in 1924, the Coppa Acerbo. This was a counter punch to the Italian Government after they banned road racing in Italy after the tragic Mille Miglia of that year. But whether they elect to withdraw completely from F1 is a situation we will have to wait and see. Promoters around the world would welcome Ferrari with open arms to compete in their series.
Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa have declared they will stay with Ferrari no matter which path they choose. They know all too well that if they say the wrong thing Ferrari would with no hesitation show them the door. This could also be construed, as they know already what path Ferrari will choose.
Ferrari will make their decision and with no exception they will please themselves. It would be disastrous for many if they don't front, but F1 will survive and Ferrari won't be forgotten as they hold many records in the sport.
