RM Auctions brought in a surprise to Ferrari this year. The black and red colored vehicle was sold at a record-breaking $12.2M. The Ferrari 250TR has been fully-restored and also flaunts new features.
Ferrari has always been a well-known name in the car industry and speaking of history, the Ferrari 250TRs entered 19 international championship races from 1958 through 1961 that also made itself proud with 10 victories.
“The historical significance of this car attracted a bidding war as collectors from around the world - both in the room and on the telephone – competed to secure one of the most alluring and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars,” commented Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.
And he further went on to say, “The eyes of the world were watching today’s sale as cars of this quality are so rarely offered to the market. The quality and the provenance of the Testa Rossa speaks for itself and the price we achieved today is testament to that. We are delighted with the result the car achieved today.”
The car drove in to the first owner, Piero Drogo, Modena, Italy in December 1957. Piero Drogo, a racing driver and future coachbuilder, presented the powerful machine at the notable 1000 km Buenos Aires in January 1958 and he also earned a respectable fourth place finish.
The car was expected to break the records of the previously held auctions and as per the expectation the 250TR got sold at $12.2M. Great quality also demands a big price. Speaking of a big price; you may want to think again looking at the above mentioned price!
