Car Talk (II): District V Parking Fees Fuel Fashionable Ferrari

our shitty city Car Talk (II): District V Parking Fees Fuel Fashionable Ferrari

Kelly Kelly KellyYou ever wonder where all the money you pump into the meter if you park in central Budapest goes? So do we! But now it turns out that at least some has been going to pay the lease on a Ferrari! According to index.hu, District V Mayor Antal Rogán recently decided against renewing the district's contract with the firm that manages its parking operations after discovering a Ft 67.5 million lease for one of the famed Italian marquee's supercars on the company's books. The car was apparently a souped-up version of the standard F430 pictured left from this previous piece on where to get your own fashionable Ferrari in Budapest, and, interestingly enough, the owner of the company, Péter Csipak, is also the force behind the "Fashion Street" development in the district.

While pointing out that the company had seemingly done a good job - it had managed the business since 1997, and brought in more money for the municipality each year - Rogán suggested that if the firm had enough money for a Ferrari, the district might be able to do better. As you might expect, this means having the municipality take over the job itself, so now instead of cars fit for executive royalty its books will likely feature bills for discount potatoes for the upscale district's impoverished peasants.
