This is his seventh pole in 182 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, and his second pole and fourth top-10 start in 2009. This is also his second pole in ten races at Richmond International Raceway.
Qualifying second, Jeff Gordon and his No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet posted his seventh top-10 start of 2009 and his 25th in 33 races at Richmond International Raceway.
In third, Denny Hamlin and his No. 11 FedEx Ground Toyota posted his sixth top-10 start at Richmond International Raceway. It is his fourth in ten races this season.
Martin Truex Jr. and Jeff Burton rounded out the top five qualifiers.
In 11th, David Stremme put up the best effort by the Dodge drivers, while the best result from the Ford contigent was a woeful 20th by Greg Biffle.
