World leaders at the G8 summit have received "weighted gifts" from the Italian government.

Hand made books portraying works by neo-classical sculptor Antonio Canova, and gold coins representing an imaginary future world currency.

The 24-kilo books were crafted with traditional techniques by 23 Italian craftsmen.

They include etchings and dozens of black and white photographs of Canova's artworks, including close-ups of his statues.

Roberta Cardinali, Marilena Ferrari Foundation, said, "Every book has been personalized with a number of elements, the hand-written anthem for example, and on the cover of the book there are some elements recalling the characteristics of every country."
