Race 10 of the Formula One season arrives after a day of intense drama for the sport.

Felipe Massa remains in a stable condition in a Budapest hospital following his horrific 170mph crash after the Brazilian was knocked unconscious after being struck by loose debris on the track which caused him a fractured skull and a night in intensive care.

Ferrari are upbeat over the 28-year-old's condition and we will bring you updates on Massa throughout the day, when it arrives.

As the sport calls for more stringent safety measures, our attention switches to Hungaroring where Fernando Alonso leads the grid following his shock pole.

A glitch in timing system caused panic and confusion in the pits after yesterday's Q3, with the two-time world champion probing his F1 rivals over their qualifying times beofre realising he had claimed his first pole in almost two years.

The Renault man has it all to do, however, with the in-form Red Bull duo sitting closely behind on the starting grid with Sebastian Vettel alongside him on the front row and Mark Webber behind in third.

Lewis Hamilton begins from a season-best fourth, while under-pressure championship leader Jenson Button has serious ground to make up from 8th place.

Although the Brawn GP driver can not be budged from the standings, his 21-point lead over the young German contender Vettel could be cut-half at the chequered flag today - and then we would have a real title race on our hands...
