THE market for fast rides and hot cars is bigger than ever.
At car-rental company Luxe Car Rental, which offers Maseratis, Lamborghinis and Porsches for hire, business has been booming. The company, headed by Russian founder Pavel Zotov, 38, has seen increases of between 20 and 30 per cent in rentals monthly since opening last November.
Weddings represent about 30 per cent of its business, while corporate functions make up about 15 per cent, said Mr Zotov. Other occasions include birthdays, Father's Day, proposals and romantic getaways.
One of the company's clients, 27-year-old civil servant Kelvin Kwok, paid about $6,000 to rent a red Ferrari for his wedding for two days in May.
"I wanted something special for that day," he said. "The Ferrari had a unique Formula One gearbox which you engage by pushing a button. That was a novelty."
Luxe charges $688 for the rental of a Porsche Boxster S per day, and $2,988 for the rental of a Ferrari Spider. It is the only car-rental company in Singapore to offer exotic cars for rent.
It "aims to fill the gap in the car-rental industry here", said Mr Zotov. Other companies like Avis offer a general range of mainstream brands, like Japanese marque Toyota.
