The British star, 30, was a surprise addition to the French squad to compete at Le Mans in June.
And he warmed up by sharing the winning car at Sebring with reigning Le Mans champions Spaniard Marc Gene and Austrian Alexander Wurz.
It was a battle to the bitter end between Davidson's car and the sister 5.5 litre V12 diesel of Sebastien Bourdais, Nicolas Minassian and Pedro Lamy.
The two French teams held a three-lap lead over the sole Lola Aston Martin but, with Audi forced to test its Le Mans car at the nearby Homestead track rather than race at Sebring, the Peugeots were left to fight each other for victory.
Audi had wanted to compete at Sebring but its new R15 Plus was untested and Peugeot refused permission for their rivals to compete with a 2009-spec car.
The two Peugeots set their own pace throughout the 12 hours and, as a race, it was hardly a spectacle.
At the final round of pit stops and with scant seconds separating the two French cars, Bourdais left the pits on cold tyres and spun wildly in front of the Drayson Racing Lola.
That lead to Peugeot Sport Director Olivier Quesnel calling time on their fight with just over half an hour left to run.
Peugeot left the Florida track satisfied with its 1-2 finish as it begins its count down to Le Mans, and for Davidson victory was particularly sweet.
He said: "I raced in a Ferrari and finished second [in class], and I really wanted to come back and win it.
"It was nice that the race turned out to be so close, and it's great to have marked my debut with the team with a win.
"I heard one point that we weren't really racing, but I disagree. I've got the aches and pains that I was racing.
"With Peugeot we came here as a team and wanted to accomplish a goal and we did.
"This was a big challenge to get through the traffic efficiently, that was where we excelled today.
"We know the circuit will throw up all kinds of issues for reliability.
"It's important to win the race for preparations for Le Mans later in the year. And it's a challenge not just the cars but for all the crew and great practice.
"Thanks to the team, until a few weeks ago I didn't have a contract and it came up, to be here right now with these guys is a blessing.
"I always wanted to drive this car when I was racing the Aston last year at Le Mans and they blasted by me in the diesel."
