With the likes of past champion Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button challenging for the ultimate prize this year, it will be a race to the end. Get set, ladies and gentlemen.
The race circuit is 6.299km with the race distance at 308.405km. All drivers’ needs to do 49 lap to be crowned champion and Michael Schumacher lap record of 1:30.252 still stands since 2004. Reigning F1 champion Jensen Button won this race in 2009 in the Brawn-Mercedes car.
Topping Bahrain
After the finishing their pre-season testing at Circuit de Catalunya two weeks ago, it is still too early to determine who will run away with the title. However, a few familiar names and cars will certainly be amongst the favorites at the end season. We start by reigning F1 champion, Jensen Button, who moved to McLaren in the close season to partner up with Lewis Hamilton. Two Brits with a F1 title on belt will draw out attention as how they will perform as a team and as a foe. The McLaren had good results with their aerodynamic package but the team knows they are not where they want to be yet. They are close and they will get there eventually in the season.
Ferrari will see the return of Felipe Massa, after last season near to fatal crash, and he is partnering up with former F1 champion, Fernando Alonso. Both drivers are experienced and looks to take Ferrari back to the top after a few seasons disappointing performance. Their cars are simply good and they have exploited the double diffuser concept and KERS power-boost system. This is a reliable car compared to the ones in the past. They will have to fend off both Red Bull and Mercedes who have also worked their around with the diffuser system. Red Bull kept the same team of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull believes their cars are as good as the Ferrari and they will be among the top at the season.
Mercedes changed their staff around and brought in the legendary F1 driver, Michael Schumacher, back to the limelight. However, the Mercedes cars have not performed as well as they hoped so both Schumacher and Nico Rosberg might get the winning start they are hoping for.
Midfield
Force India will have their eyes set to improve this season with drivers V. Liuzzi and A. Sutil doing the business. Force India received a boost last season change their engine to Mercedes and that has given top results. Hopefully improvements have been done. Williams will front their cars with Ruben Barrichello and new boy Nico Hulkenberg. A disappointing 2009 saw the team go through a period whether to compete in 2010. Here they are and let’s see what they can do. BMW Sauber will see P. De La Rosa and K. Kobayashi fronting their spearhead. Both are very new to F1 but Kobayashi had a few races last season so they are going be interesting pair. Headlined for all the wrong reason, Renault will hope to start a new chapter in 2010 with R. Kubica and V. Petrov while Torro Rosso have S. Buemi and J. Alguersuari to fight it out with the rest.
New Teams
There will be three new teams that will be part of the F1 2010 season. The return of the team Lotus could surprise a few with Jarno Trulli and Hekki Kovalainen as their drivers. The last time this team raced was back in 1994 and many will hope they will stay longer than their last outing. HRT will be front by B. Senna, nephew of the late A. Senna, and K. Chandhok. Last but not least, Virgin will compete for the big prizes with Timo Glock and L. di Grassi for Richard Branson’s team. The millionaire parted with the Brawn team to make his own brand, Virgin, known to the F1 world.
Verdict
Some many names to choose from and there can only be one winner. A win for former champion, Michael Schumacher, is certainly the story that everybody wants to talk about. Sadly, teams McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull are currently better cars. Red Bull might be one year more experience in the quest for title but both McLaren and Ferrari have strengthened their drivers. It will be between the Ferrari and McLaren at the end but which drivers have what it takes to win the first race of the season. Felipe Massa could be sure a top 3 finish but Lewis Hamilton will have to battle it out with Alonso for the top spot .... GO!!!!
